About Jiwolo Community Exchange Project

Jiwolo Community Exchange is a community-powered initiative created to strengthen bonds within the Black community—across generations, identities, and geographies. Launched in 2025 by Stephanie Mhlanga-Fillyaw and nested under MusiqTruth Entertainment, The Jiwolo Project exists to connect, uplift, and invest in underserved communities through wellness, storytelling, and access to vocational opportunities.

Rooted in the Mende concept of jiwolo—“the passing on of knowledge”—we bridge two unique communities: the vibrance of metropolitan Atlanta and the resilience of rural West Pender County in southeastern North Carolina. Through meaningful dialogue and intentional resource transfer, we foster belonging, self-determination, and sustainable development across these distinct yet deeply connected places.

Our mission includes civic engagement, life skills development, and cultural gatherings that celebrate the full spectrum of Black experiences. We welcome all and intentionally focus support on those at the margins of the margins—people navigating the intersections of age, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, ability, and cultural background—because we believe that when the most excluded are empowered, everyone rises.

Jiwolo is not a 501(c)(3), and that’s by design. Our model gives us the freedom to act boldly, speak truthfully, and deliver direct community care without compromise. All contributions support events, enrichment experiences, and the future establishment of scholarship and grant funds in rural West Pender County, NC.

Together, we’re creating a future where connection fuels opportunity, and shared stories spark lasting transformation.
